The symposium “Il Che e Cuba: Tra Guerra Fredda e Internazionalismo Terzomondista [Che and Cuba: Between Cold War and Third World Internationalism] will take place on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, 10:00am – 6:30pm, at Fabbrica del Vapore, Auditorium – 1st floor, Via Giulio Cesare Procaccini 4, Milan, Italy. See post by Peter Jordens and link below for more information:

The meeting, which will involve Italian and foreign contemporary historians and experts in Latin American history and international relations, will focus on situating Cuba in the “long” sixties, at the crossroads between the Cold War and the Third World dynamics following the process of decolonization. The focus will be in particular on the role of Ernesto Guevara in Cuban foreign policy between 1959 and 1967, including the missile crisis (1962) that brought the world to the brink of World War III and the Tricontinental Conference (1966) that tried to include Cuba within the international liberation struggles. Attention will also be paid to the international impact of Che’s myth in those years, including on movements, actors and associations of Third Worldism in the Americas, Europe and the rest of the world.
