TODAY!—When Words and Images Matter: A Conversation with Christiane Taubira and Raoul Peck


“When Words and Images Matter: Challenges to our Time. A Conversation with Christiane Taubira and Raoul Peck” will take place today, October 27, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm, at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. A book signing and reception follows.

Description: For Former French Minister of Justice, Christiane Taubira, and award-winning film director and writer, Raoul Peck, words and images matter for how they frame and cast the stories that determined and promulgate the systemic inequalities and injustices that divide and challenge our societies today.

Their conversation will continue bdiscussions about present day legacies of slavery, racial discrimination, and hegemonic power relations raised by Peck’s documentary “I Am Not Your Negro” showing at the Student Union Cinema, Oct. 19 at 5 & 7pm, and his Distinguished Lecture Series Talk on Identity, History, Race and Baldwin on Thursday October 26, at 7pm in the UWM Union Wisconsin Room.

Co-sponsors include at UWM: Humanities Grant, IWA, MALLT, WGS, CLACS; and the Alliance française of Milwaukee and the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Chicago.
