Gillian Royes in “Atlanta Noir”

Jamaican writer Gillian Royes announces her first short story—“The One-Eyed Woman”—to be published in a collection, Atlanta Noir, edited by Tayari Jones. The launch of Atlanta Noir, by A Cappella Books, will be held at the Wrecking Bar on August 1, 2017, at 7:00pm. The Wrecking Bar Brewpub is located at 292 Moreland Ave NE, Atlanta, Georgia.

Royes is also author of The Rhythm of the August Rain, The Goat Woman of Largo Bay, The Man Who Turned Both Cheeks, The Sea Grape Tree, How to Be an Immigrant, Sexcess: The New Gender Rules at Work, among others. Her first film script was made into a short film, Preciosa, directed by Peter Sagnia and shot in St. Croix in 2016. She is currently working on a film script based on the first book in the Shad Series, The Goat Woman of Largo Bay.

Gillian Royes was born in Kingston, Jamaica. She attended Colorado College and later went on to the University of Wisconsin and Emory University, where she earned a doctorate in American Studies. She lives in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
