Multi-award-winning Puerto Rican actress Rita Moreno will be among those honored at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery—along with Dr. Madeleine K. Albright, David D. Ho, M.D., Bill T. Jones, and Spike Lee—during the second American Portrait Gala, to be held on November 19, 2017. The honorees will receive the “Portrait of a Nation Prize.”

Description: The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery will hold its second biennial American Portrait Gala Sunday, Nov. 19, honoring five individuals whose achievements in their respective fields have been exemplary and whose portraits reside in the museum’s collection. The 2017 recipients are former Secretary of State Dr. Madeleine K. Albright; Taiwanese American medical doctor and HIV/AIDS researcher David D. Ho, M.D.; artistic director, choreographer and dancer Bill T. Jones; film director, producer, writer and actor Spike Lee; and multi-award-winning actress Rita Moreno.
Honorees will be awarded the “Portrait of a Nation Prize” for their accomplishments in politics and diplomacy, the arts, science, entertainment and advocacy. As leaders in their fields, these five luminaries were selected because of their commitments to service, creativity, individuality, insight and inquiry. [. . .]
