Periódico 26 announced that the Nicolás Guillén Foundation will host a celebration of the 80th anniversary of the 2nd International Congress of Writers in Defense of Culture [II Congreso Internacional de Escritores en Defensa de la Cultura] on July 10 and 11, 2017, at the UNEAC [Unión de Escritores y Artistas Cubanos] headquarters.

The institution will pay special homage to the important event held in 1937 in Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona and Paris, where Nicolás Guillén had an outstanding participation together with Juan Marinello, Alejo Carpentier, Félix Pita Rodríguez and Leonardo Fernández Martínez.

The event also commemorates the 80th anniversary of the two books that represent milestones in the poetry of Nicolás Guillén, who was Director of the Foundation.

They will also celebrate the 70th anniversary of what many consider the best work of poetry of the author: El Son Entero (the Entire Son) that has the most recognized poems that complete the work of his literary success.

The encounter will include issues like the controversies between Eduardo Chibás and Pepín Rivero on the Spanish Civil War; Alejo Carpentier: España bajo las Bombas (Spain under the Bombs); and Impronta de España Republicana (Imprint of Republican Spain) of the life and work of Nicolás Guillén among others, explained the organizers.

The activities will be held in the Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC) from morning to afternoon.
