A report by Carly Stern for the Daily Mail.
Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda decided to pay tribute to his wife this weekend in a way that’s even more permanent than a marriage certificate.
The 37-year-old, who said ‘I do’ to his former high school classmate Vanessa Nadal in 2010, headed to the tattoo parlor for some seriously sentimental ink.
On Wednesday, he showed it off on Twitter, sharing a picture of a subtle black ‘V’ on his left ring finger.
‘In other news, I got a permanent parking spot for V over the weekend,’ he wrote, captioning the picture.
Thousands of fans chimed in, called the gesture ‘adorable’ and ‘the cutest thing ever to be done’.
Only Christopher Jackson — who starred in Lin-Manuel’s In the Heights and played George Washington in the original Hamilton cast — had anything negative to say, sharing a joke about his friend’s hairy knuckles.
Lin-Manuel has never held back with big, romantic gestures when it comes to his wife, whom he’s known since he was a senior and she was a sophomore in high school (though they didn’t start dating until years later).
‘I’m not afraid, I know who I married’: The pair have been married since 2010 but first met in high school.
In 2008, when accepting a Tony for Best Score for In the Heights, he delivered his speech as a rap, which included the line: ‘Vanessa, who still leaves me breathless, thanks for loving me when I was broke and making breakfast.’
At the couple’s 2010 wedding, he surprised her by enlisting family members and the entire bridal party to perform a huge song and dance number to the Fiddler on the Roof song L’chaim.
Then, in 2016, he gave her yet another touching shout-out in his Tony’s acceptance speech, saying, ‘My wife’s the reason anything gets done.
‘She nudges me towards promise by degrees. She is a perfect symphony of one. Our son is her most beautiful reprise.’
Lin-Manuel is not, however, the first star to get a tattoo in place of, or in addition to, a wedding band.
Beyoncé has the Roman numeral IV on her finger, four being her lucky number with husband Jay-Z.
Jason Kennedy had ‘Lo’ inked on his finger after marrying Lauren Scruggs, and Dax Shepard has a picture of a bell in the same spot as a tribute to his wife Kristen Bell.
