As previously announced, the company Ferries del Caribe has resumed its service between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The ferry route from Puerto Rico to the port of Santo Domingo will sail every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and from Santo Domingo will depart Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Dominican Today states that this will reactivate tourism and trade between the two countries.
The article reminds us that, since the late 1980s, the company has transported 1.8 million passengers, and is estimated to reach 175,000 per year (with a total capacity of 546,000 passengers annually).
According to Dominican Today, Ferries del Caribe CEO Néstor González García said the new boat service creates 200 direct and 500 indirect jobs, “for a total of 700 jobs that will be occupied by Dominicans as well as by Puerto Ricans in each of the areas that make up the structure of the company.”
