As part of the New Traditions Festival 2017: Our Caribbean Spirit, this Thursday, May 4, at 6:00pm, the Dance Caribbean COLLECTIVE (DCC) will be at the Woody Tanger Auditorium at Brooklyn College for a thought provoking panel discussion on Caribbean cultural appropriation.
Ilana Warner (Press Relations) writes: It comes as no surprise that our beloved Carnival experience is sweeping the many corners of the world. ‘Dancehall and Soca are infiltrating mainstream, and this is exciting our community to want to do more,’ states DCC Founder Candace Thompson. However, this brings us to ask, are we truly sharing our culture or losing it? This Panel discussion will generate a dynamic dialogue within our community on how to preserve our culture.
