DW

CineLit, The Latin American & Caribbean Literary Film Festival hosted by NGC Bocas Lit Fest starts today, April 18, and runs through April 30, 2017 in Trinidad. This festival will honor the life and work of the late St. Lucian poet Derek Walcott. Venues include the National Library, Port of Spain; the Centre for Language Learning (CLL), UWI, St. Augustine; Film Unit, Carmody Street, UWI St. Augustine; and the Alma Jordan Library, UWI St. Augustine.

Description: A Festival within a festival – because the best films are from books!

Again this year CineLit celebrates the remarkably rich heritage of both literature and film from our hemispheric neighbours and commemorates the life and work of the Nobel Laureate, poet Sir Derek Walcott.

From Tuesday 18 April to Sunday 30 April, you can enjoy a programme of dozens of feature films and documentaries, including adaptations of beloved literary classics from across Latin America and the Caribbean — many of them award-winning films, and most of them making their T&T debut.

The NGC Bocas Lit Fest, in partnership with the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the embassies of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Spain and Venezuela, is proud to host the 2017 CineLit.

[*All non-English films are screened with English subtitles, with the exception of the film La ciudad y los perros (The Time of the Hero).]
