This image and news caught my eye because it is reminiscent of the magnificent but now run-down Hotel Normandie in San Juan, Puerto Rico. [Does someone among our readers have information on the respective architects?] The London-based hotel group St Giles will be the first of its kind in the United Kingdom to have a property in Havana, Cuba, with the acquisition of the famous Hotel Deauville, across from El Malecón walkway.
According to the British publication Buying Business Travel, the most important newspaper in the UK on business and travel, the hotel company has partnered with the Cuban state-owned company Gran Caribe, in order to rebuild the well-known Havana hotel.
The four star property will be named Deauville – A St Giles Signature Hotel, and its opening is scheduled for 2019, with the addition of a rooftop bar and a gym overlooking the capital.
