Sara Kaiser (Island Conservation) introduces a video by Diatom Productions, which presents a way to mitigate invasive lionfish. The film explains how filmmakers use virtual reality to create awareness among local residents about the need to decrease the number of lionfish and about the benefits and safety of eating them [the preview does not specify which island]. The film ends with the slogan, “Eat if to beat it.” Kaiser explains: “Lionfish, (Pterois volitans) is a venomous and highly invasive species causing problems in the Caribbean. Though it doesn’t exactly look appetizing at first glance, the lionfish is indeed good to eat. Diatom Productions shares a film about a proposal to integrate lionfish into the diets of locals.”
