Aruba Celebrates Dia di Betico ( Jan. 25)

On January 25, Arubans will celebrate the Dia di Betico [Betico’s Day] in celebration of national hero Gilberto François “Betico” Croes, who was born on that date. The event will begin at 5:00pm at the newly renovated Plaza Libertador Gilberto François Betico Croes (in Vondellaan, Oranjestad, Aruba) with a formal ceremony and laying of flowers at his tomb, followed by a cultural program from 6:30 to 9:30pm.

Gilberto François “Betico” Croes is often called Father of the Aruban Nation and Libertador di Aruba [Liberator of Aruba] for his pro-independence efforts. He was responsible for establishing Aruba’s seal, flag, and national anthem, “Aruba Dushi Tera” [Aruba, Sweet Land]
