The National Art Gallery of the Bahamas will open the Eighth National Exhibition (NE8) Offsite showcase at Hillside House on December 17, 2016 at 6:00pm. Hillside House is located at 25 Cumberland Street, Nassau, The Bahamas. Artists include Dionne Benjamin-Smith, Del Foxton, Virginia Cafferata, Kay Hardy, Ken Heslop, Andre Sturrup, Clarence Green, Jo Morasco, Susan Jensen-Sweeting, Alicia Wallace, Keisha Oliver, Lowree Tynes, Angelique V. Nixon, Cynthia Rahming and Natalie Willis. The Bahamas Weekly reports:
During the opening of the National Exhibition 8 at Hillside House on Saturday, December 17, visitors will be treated to a presentation, performance and conversation between four of the NE8 participating artists: Angelique V. Nixon, Charlotte Henay, Researcher in Residence: Hilary Booker, and Yasmin Glinton.
The event will focus on various themes including wellness and its capacity to render the return the spirit to neutral; this will be analyzed through the creation of safe spaces, communities and or pulling back into the personal through moments of engagement with the self. Indigeneity and loss attributed to working in a space that dishonors history, along with the development of storytelling through the creation of mythologies will be explored.
