The Polasek Museum in Winter Park presents its next exhibition, Contemporary Visions of Frantz Zéphirin: Haitian Mystic. A report from the Osceola News-Gazette.

This highly unusual collection is being put together now for a Dec. 6 opening.

According to museum curator Rachel Frisby, its journey began on Nov. 9, leaving a small, Creole-speaking, mountain village in Haiti, called Nerette, where the featured artist, Frantz Zéphirin lives and paints.

From the port city of Port-au-Prince, it will take about a month’s voyage to arrive in Miami and clear international customs, this on top of post Hurricane Matthew relief efforts. The Museum and much of thecentral Florida community has not been exposed to Haitian art before, especially with Voodoo undertones and themes. As one of the top-producing Haitian artists working today, his work has been featured on the cover of the New Yorker Magazine and Zéphirin continues to enjoy a prolific gallery career throughout the United States.

The musuem is thrilled to introduce him to the Central Florida community, where he will present newly created works, and take part in a meaningful discussion that is relevant to our growing Caribbean population in Orange County, she said. The exhibit will run through April 16 of next year.

The Albin Polasek Museum is located at 633 Osceola Ave., Winter Park.
