Watch Alvarez’s interview with Vermont’s WCAX.
She’s a bestselling author and a past recipient of the National Medal of Arts. Vermont author Julia Alvarez teamed up with renowned artist Sabra Field on a new book to help tackle a difficult issue to discuss with children– where people go when they die. It’s called “Where Do They Go?”
Alvarez said it was an issue she started thinking about when members of her large Latino family began passing away.
“I found that when you are grieving you return to a child’s basic questions. All the answers disappear,” she said. “It’s sort of like ground zero and you return to that simplicity and you ask yourself those basic questions of where do they go and where do I find them now that they are gone?”
