Monica Puig out of the French Open

Unfortunately for us fans of Puerto Rican tennis player Monica Puig, Madison Keys booked her place in the last 16 of the French Open for the first time by defeating Monica 7-6 (7-3) 6-3.

The pair met at Roland Garros in the second round of the 2013 edition of the competition, with the Puerto Rican coming out on top in straight sets. This time, in a fiercely competitive match that had gave Monica five set points in the first set, Keys had the edge.

It was a great tournament for Monica Puig, nonetheless. She played well and served strongly (except perhaps during the second set today). It augurs well for the coming tournaments.

I am eagerly awaiting Monday’s announcements of the new rankings, as I hope to see Monica back in the world’s top 50 players.
