Prensa Latina reports that Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders expressed himself in favor of the liberation of Puerto Rican political prisoner Oscar Lopez Rivera and renegotiation of Puerto Rico’s public debt.
Sanders, senator from Vermont, said that he would tell US President Barack Obama to release Lopez Rivera, 73, who on next May 29 will be 35 years imprisoned in US jails for fighting in favor of Puerto Rican independence.
Sanders also expressed himself in favor of renegotiating the public debt of Puerto Rico, of some $70 billion USD, in the middle of fiscal insolvency and economic stagnation, and said that if he is elected as US President he will not let Wall Street swallow Puerto Rico, a country of 3.5 million inhabitants.
Sanders, who describes himself as a socialist, said that the Puerto Rican population should not suffer anymore due to millionaire investors that seek to have more millions and also that debt has to be renegotiated.
