Explores the evolution of Jamaican popular music, looking at the content and form of reggae in all its permutations, as well as related antecedents and descendants.
Carnival Arts: West Indian’s Greatest Show on Earth
May 14 and 21 (two days)
Explores the phenomenon of the Caribbean Carnival and its impact in the UK diaspora and across the world.
Researching Black London: Community, Culture & Family
May 14 and 21 (two days)
Teaches participants the skills and methods for researching London’s Black History.
Performance Writing: Black British Writing
May 28 and June 4 (two days)
An overview of historical Performance and Black British Writing practices.
Introduction to Black British Literature and Film
April 26 – July 5 (10 weeks)
An introduction to significant moments on page and screen which address the modern experience of Black people living in Britain.
All courses will be repeated in the Autumn of 2016 and Spring of 2017.
