Yasser Tejeda & Palotré will be in concert on February 18, 2016, 7:30pm, at the Cultural Center Gallery of Alianza Dominicana located at 530 West 166th Street, New York, New York.
Description: Yasser Tejeda & Palotré is an infectiously rhythmic and cutting-edge group from Dominican Republic, conceptualized and led by guitarist and composer Yasser Tejeda. In this concert, Tejeda will be presenting the project with Otoniel Vargas on drums, Jonathan Troncoso on percussion and Kyle Miles on bass.
Palotré fuses Dominican roots music with Jazz, Blues, Funk and Rock. Influenced by and infused with the edginess of Rock, the harmonic complexities of Jazz and the rhythms of Dominican music, the group is making folkloric music refreshing and more accessible. The arrangements also serve as a platform to express the musical diversity that is found in Dominican Republic.
Palotré’s debut album Mezclansa (2009) was dubbed one of the “100 essential recordings of Dominican music” by Dominican Republic’s Association of Art Writers (Acroarte).
In the words of Chip Boaz in Latin Jazz Corner: “Yasser Tejeda brings the best of several musical worlds into one engaging mix that touches upon Dominican tradition, reaches deeply into modern rock and fusion sounds, and stretches the idea of Latin Jazz to the further reaches of its boundaries.”
And says Bill Milkowski of Jazz Times, “Palotre invigorates the bachata and merengue tradition with a post-Hendrix, post-Jaco, post-Bob Marley aesthetic that is positively brimming with hip ideas and an edgy electric quality while remaining fundamentally rooted in groove. Led by the exciting guitarist-composer Yasser Tejeda, a talent worthy of wider recognition, this accomplished band from the Dominican Republic carves out some fresh new territory on the modern jazz scene with Mezclansa.”
