Veteran Latin Star Juan Luis Guerra Is Offering A $200,000 (£125,000) College Scholarship To Help One Lucky Youngster Study Music At His Alma Mater, Contact Music reports.
The Dominican merengue star has teamed up with the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation to co-finance the scholarship, which is named after Guerra and will help fund studies at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
“It’s a great privilege to be part of this scholarship in partnership with the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation and Berklee College of Music,” Guerra explains. “As an alumnus of Berklee I understand the desire of many Latino students who wish to develop their musical gift in this wonderful school. Today we begin this beautiful dream and our hearts are filled with joy!”
Students from 22 Latin American countries, as well as the U.S. and Canada, who have been admitted to study Latin music at the college in 2016 are eligible for the scholarship.
The Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation previously collaborated with Enrique Iglesiasto create a similar scholarship fund.
