ICS Cine Foro: Caribbean Documentary Films by Miquel Galofré

ic conferencia 27 octubre corregido

The Institute of Caribbean Studies at the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras (UPR-RP) presents Cine Foro (a cinema forum event), featuring screenings of Caribbean documentaries, a Q&A session and discussion.

Songs of Redemption (Dir. Miquel Galofré and Amanda Sans, 2013) documents the transformation of a prison in Kingston, Jamaica through the introduction of musical instruments and a recording studio run by the inmates themselves. Art Connect (Dir. Miquel Galofré, 2015) follows a similar transformation through an “art education project” in Laventille, the most economically-depressed area of Port of Spain, Trinidad. Cine Foro will also screen a 10-minute clip of a Puerto Rican film by director Marel Malaret on an innovative writing project taking place in local jails. Miquel Galofré—Catalan film director based in Trinidad—will be present for a Q&A session. Dr. María Cristina Rodríguez will serve as discussant. [Event organized by director Sonia Fritz.]

This event takes place on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, from 4:30 to 7:00 at the Manuel Maldonado Denis Amphitheatre (CRA 108) of the Carmen Rivera de Alvarado Building, School of Social Sciences, UPR-RP.
