Dominican musician Juan Luis Guerra kicked off his “Todo tiene su hora” American tour in San Juan, showing that he is at the top of his game and getting the 15,000 people in the audience moving to the merengue, bachata, salsa and balada songs on tap, The Latin American Herald Tribune reports.

The 58-year-old Guerra opened Saturday’s show at the Jose M. Agrelot Coliseo in Puerto Rico’s capital with “Cookies and Cream,” one of the tracks on his most recent album, and followed it with “Todo tiene su hora,” the theme of the tour that he started in Europe at mid-year.

Guerra, an award-winning performer with 15 Latin Grammys to his credit, then moved on to “La travesia” and “Ojala que llueva cafe,” one of the best known songs from his career, which spans more than 30 years.

The performer, a graduate of the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, continued with “La llave de mi corazon.”

“It’s a blessing to be here. Greetings to my Dominican brothers and the bachateros,” Guerra said before dedicating his next song, “Mi bendicion,” to all the married couples in the audience.

The singer told his fans that he had been married for 32 years.

Guerra shifted over to salsa, a Caribbean genre that the singer said he learned from Puerto Rican performers like El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Cortijo and His Combo, Richie Ray, Bobby Cruz and Willie Colon.

The Dominican singer, who performed in Honduras and El Salvador before arriving in San Juan, finished the concert with “Todo tiene su hora,” “Frio frio,” “Burbujas de amor” and “Las avispas,” all big hits from his long career.

Guerra’s tour will continue in Panama on Oct. 20 and Oct. 22; Durango, Mexico, on Oct. 24; San Jose, Costa Rica, on Oct. 31; and Bogota on Nov. 7.

The tour will continue in New York on Feb. 4, followed by concerts in Boston, Toronto and Montreal, with another performance in San Juan on Feb. 20.
