Description: The Honorable Dr. Ralph Everard Gonsalves, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will address “The US-Cuba Accord: How the Caribbean Paved the Way.” After months of negotiations and following five decades of political estrangement, Cuba’s flag now stands among those countries with which the United States has diplomatic relations. An agreement was reached in July to restore the ties between the two countries which had been broken since 1961. In his lecture, Dr. Gonsalves will explore the role that Caribbean nations and regional social/political influencers had in establishing normalization of relations between the United States and Cuba.
Dr. Gonsalves is the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and leader of the Unity Labour Party. He became Prime Minister in the 2001 and was re-elected in 2005 and 2010.
