Les Editions du Manguier have just published Gerty Dambury’s La Sérénada à Poinsettia.
Here’s a description from the publisher:
Poinsettia Fridland, a forty-something woman, lives the life of a recluse in Goyave, a small community in Guadeloupe, where her parents had sought refuge in the aftermath of a tragedy she knows nothing about.
Joseph Guiriaboye, a fifty-something man, in an effort to seduce the strange woman, focuses his efforts on serenading her under her bedroom window.
He charges his bother Paul, a lonely and brilliant musician living in Pointe-à-Pitre, with the task.
The serenading plan finds Joseph and Poinsettia entangled in a love story that develops at cross purposes, as they both seemed focused on finding something other than each other. She dreams of places beyond the village and picking the thread of her family’s history, he dreams of changes while engaged in his deception with Paul.
Poinsettia leaves Goyave for Pointe-à-Pitre, where she will discover the truth of her parents’s story and meet Paul, whose own life she will alter.
