The University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras informed that professor of Fine Arts Martín García Rivera became the first Puerto Rican to win a prize for work at the International Print Triennial in Krakow, Poland.
The dean of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bresloavia, awarded Martín García Rivera a special prize during the International Print Triennial in Krakow for his work “Archivo de asombro cotidiano” [Archive of Everyday Wonder].
Referring to the series of works that were prized, García Rivera said that they are “as real as they are unreal.” He also called upon the members of the artistic community in Puerto Rico to display something meaningful about the island through their work.
“This insistence in submitting our work somehow conveys the idea that this space exists in the world, although sometimes they may not know how to pronounce my name,” said the artist.
