Exhibit Showcases Miami-Based Caribbean Artists

If you’re from the Caribbean or just are an art fan, a new exhibit is open in Miami’s Little Haiti area that might tickle your fancy.

The exhibit, located at the Little Haiti Cultural Center, is the fifth in a series showcasing contemporary art from Caribbean artists based in South Florida.

All artists have roots in places such as Haiti, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Guadeloupe, Jamaica and Venezuela.

“Global Caribbean V: Focus on the Miami Contemporary Visual Arts Landscape” opened last week as an official satellite program of Art Basel Miami Beach.

It’s curated by Miguel Rojas Sotelo of the Center for Latin American Caribbean Studies at Duke University.

The exhibit also includes a station to access the online exhibit “An Island Luminous,” featuring digitized Haitian books, manuscripts, newspapers and photographs.

It’s hosted by the Digital Library of the Caribbean.
