In a continuation of actions for the prevention and management of waste, Region Martinique responded to the call for projects organized around the theme “zéro déchet zéro gaspillage” [zero litter, zero waste] of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy.

This goal of this call for projects is to select territories that will be supported in the implementation of an integrated political project on prevention and waste management in a dynamic circular economy. Considering waste as a resource, circular economy contributes to endogenous development and meets the challenges of the territory through the practice of re-using and repairing, which offers new perspectives.

The project of the Regional Council of Martinique was selected and is among the first winners announced by the Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, Ségolène Royal, on Tuesday, December 23, 2014.

The community will benefit from specific support of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, through the ADEME, which will make available technical expertise, financial support for the implementation of the process as well as aids to priority investments.

Developing our industries, creating activity in Martinique

Region Martinique accompanied the project SIDREP. So, bottles placed in “yellow bins” are now recycled in Martinique and reintegrated into the local plastic bottle manufacturing. It’s this type of facility that the community can implement with regards to tire chains, wood, or glass, for example:

– Tires: Making rubber objects, incorporating rubber scraps in concrete

– Wood: Using crushed wood for board manufacturing, or in creating composite wooden objects

– Glass: Using crushed glass in major projects

To develop these area is to restore value, reduce costs of raw materials, develop local industry, and create jobs while lowering prices in Martinique.
