Cuban-American author Gustavo Perez Firmat’s A Cuban in Mayberry: Looking Back at America’s Hometown (University of Texas Press, 2014) will be on the shelves in October. From a unique standpoint, Pérez Firmat examines rootedness, identity, and the intricacies of race and class as he weaves his personal recollections of life in the Cuban exile community with an in-depth analysis of the “The Andy Griffith Show” and its effects on a young boy in the 60s.
