Jamaican reggae, soul and pop singer Tessanne Chin lived up to her to billing, delivering a spectacular performance at the inaugural Oracabessa Festival on Memorial Day in the USA, Jamaica’s Gleaner reports. The concert was held at the Roy Wilkins Recreational Centre in Queens, New York.

When the season-five winner of ‘The Voice’ hit the stage with her Bread & Butter Band in tow, excitement ensued in anticipation of the musical treat. For close to 60 minutes, Chin served up a delicious palette of songs, including her popular Hideaway, Stronger, My Kind of Love and If I Were Your Woman for the over 15,000 persons in attendance.

Chin displayed excellent vocal range in performing Anything’s Possible, the studio recording of which will soon be released as, a single. At the end of Chin’s performance, the crowd who howled for more.

Oracabessa Festival organiser Bobby Clarke said, “We are just thrilled that we had the opportunity to present her first full-length performance for her adoring fans in the Tri-State area.”

The Doctor, Beenie Man, who brought the curtain down on the festivities, engaged fans with songs such as Sim Simma, Ole Dawg, Girls Dem Sugar, King of the Dancehall, and Back It Up.

Deejays Assassin, Bugle and Konshens, who all performed earlier in the concert, connected mainly with the younger persons in the crowd.

Apart from the main stage, there was a cultural stage that featured the Braata Folk Singers and other local area performers. A fashion show, Irie Fashion Rave, featured New York models and designers. Other attractions at the festival included a domino championship, ‘ludi’ playoffs a kids’ amusement area, business expo, a health pavilion, and an arts and craft area.

Caribbean Heritage Awards were given to Tessanne Chin, actor Paul Campbell, New York State Supreme Court Judge Sam Walker; Team Jamaica Bickle founder Irwine Clare, actor/singer Andrew Clarke, Billboard Magazine journalist Pat Meschino, concert promoter George Crooks, and radio broadcaster Milford Edwards, among others.
