Vinette K. Pryce reports that Everybody’s Magazine is planning a huge Mother’s Day fete called “Mother We Love You Concert,” which will headline some of the Caribbean’s best known soca and calypso legends, who will serenade five outstanding women while celebrating Mother’s Day. The evening performers include the Mighty Sparrow, Calypso Rose, Singing Sandra, Shadow, King Short Shirt, and Braata Jamaica Folks Singers. The concert is slated to begin at 8:00pm at the Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College, located at 1 Campus Road and Hillel Place (near Nostrand and Flatbush Avenues), in Brooklyn, New York.
The five women are Denise Donaldson of Grenada, Brenda Harris Ephraim from Antigua and Barbuda, Janet Logan of Jamaica, Gloria Smith of Panama, and Vena W. Baker, who was born in Panama but raised in Jamaica. In Pryce’s words, “the five women of distinction have all distinguished themselves as independent, successful immigrants who have left an indelible imprint on the New York landscape.”
