La Práctica is an interdisciplinary program focusing on research and production—with a duration of nine month for local applicants and 3 months for applicants from abroad—for individuals with a background in art, architecture, design, or cultural production. This program is particularly designed for those interested in creating new conditions, relationships, and positions from which to produce from within and outside of established circuits. The format is a critical and practical studio centering on “Puerto Rico, the ‘Tropics,’ the Caribbean, and our times.”

The emphasis of this atelier is on production processes and collaboration. Beta-Local proposes a flexible structure in which each individual brings to the table projects to be discussed, critiqued, and developed through an open process. The program requires active participation, in which participants share their processes, texts, and ideas to be discussed in a group. The group is formed through an open call and selection process each year. The program is free for selected participants.

Beta-Local is a non-profit space in San Juan, Puerto Rico founded in 2009 by curator Michy Marxuach and artists Tony Cruz and Beatriz Santiago Muñoz. Its mission is to promote and support art and aesthetic inquiry through education, exhibition, and production programs.
