Dominican Republic’s tourism sector seems to have recovered this year, and the country is expecting the arrival of around 250,000 Germans to all regions. Thus, tourism minister Francisco Javier García says that, given the projected increase in tourist arrivals to the country, more rooms need to be built nationwide.

Tourism minister Francisco Javier García made the assertion Wednesday at Berlin’s ITB international tourism fair, where the industry reveals a heightened interest this year. “The numbers of visits from Germany to Dominican Republic are spectacular. We ended with 16.3% growth last year and growth will exceed that number this year.”

He called Dominican Republic’s participation in the event of utmost importance, since the fair brings together the industry’s major players with the region’s countries competing. “This is the sector’s most important event, we’re more than motivated this year, since Germany comes from having one of the best performances in the past few years, with growth above 16% in tourists arriving in the Dominican Republic,” Garcia said.

The official said he’s upbeat with the results that can be achieved at the ITB, with exhibitors from segments such as travel and business, technology, suppliers, cultural tourism, cruises, adventure and ecotourism, among others.
