JESSICA Huntley, a pioneering publisher and social activist who came to Britain from Guyana in the 1950s, is to be remembered at a conference next week. She died last year aged 86.
Her Bogle-L’Ouverture Publications, published such notable Caribbean names as Linton Kwesi Johnson and Valerie Bloom.
Now, London Metropolitan Archives, based in Northampton Road, Finsbury, is to dedicate its ninth Huntley Conference to her, on Saturday February 22.
Speakers will include British African social rights activist Toyin Agbetu and social commentator Patrick Vernon.
