Soca News highlights St. Lucian photographer Fiona Compton’s new venture, Paradise Prints, calling her an impressive renaissance woman:
The much admired photographer was last year featured in Soca News after her successful collaborative exhibition at the St. Lucian High Commission in London during International Women’s Month. Now the talented Ms. Compton is sending ever widening ripples through the Caribbean fashion world with her collection of hand painted, bespoke clothing.
The original one-off pieces are beautiful, exotic and tropical prints that are ideally suited to the protean style and sensuality of Caribbean women. Compton, a native of St. Lucia who has lived in London for more than thirteen years, seamlessly weaves together her creative designing and photographic skills.
Her Paradise Prints may be appreciated as an almost natural extension of some of her photographic portraits, most especially her ‘Fiona’s Flower Series’ in which the artist captured the myriad faces of gorgeous Caribbean women, framed by vibrantly coloured flora. The Paradise Prints collection was featured at St. Lucia’s Nevis Fashion Weekend in December 2013 with the designer modestly commenting “I like doing this ‘designer’ thing if that’s what you want to call it”. Humility aside, Fiona Compton’s star continues to rise.
