On Monday December 2 the final six contestants on NBC’s talent show The Voice (USA) each performed two songs. Jamaica’s Tessanne Chin wowed the judges with her first song, performing Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption Song.’ Before her performance, Tessanne said: “It is a very important song to me and my people and I want to get it right.” Her team coach, Adam Levine, had this to say about her performance: “To carry that flag and to do it in such an unbelievable way … I was so immersed and lost in the song. I’m sure not only is Jamaica proud of you, but the whole world knows the power and potency of Bob Marley and now Tessanne Chin.” Christina Aguilera, as she has done throughout the contest, again spoke to Tessanne’s accent, mentioning that it has become more apparent.

Tessanne’s second song was Katy Perry’s electro-tinged power ballad ‘Unconditionally,’ which she dedicated to her parents, and she earned a standing ovation from the audience. It was a perfect counterpoint to her earlier performance of the Marley track. Adam said that though Katy Perry songs can tend to be insurmountable obstacles for some artists, he had no worries when it came to Tessanne. “Your ability is so crazy off the chart, I’m always impressed by you,” Levine told Tessanne. Blake Shelton said that while he knows that Tessanne loves her Jamaican heritage, he wants her to know that she is a world-class vocalist and can sing with anyone on earth, which is what everyone should focus on. “I’ve never seen anything quite like you on this show. It’s amazing!” he adds.

Which two contestants will go home, leaving the Top 4 for next week’s show, will be announced Tuesday night (December 3).
