Danny Glover to Be Honored by Bahamas Film Festival

Danny GloverThe Bahamas International Film Festival will honor Danny Glover with the career achievement award and he will be attending the December 6, 2013, tribute and presentation at the Atlantis Theater.

“Danny Glover is an extraordinary man whose accomplishments in Hollywood are equaled by his humanitarian achievements,” said Leslie Vanderpool, festival founder and executive director. “We’re honored to recognize his amazing career at the Bahamas International Film Festival.”

In addition to his decades-long work as an actor, Glover is a public speaker and is a community activist/philanthropist, with a specific focus on advocacy for economic justice, health care and education programs in the U.S. and Africa. He received a DGA honor in 2006 and the Pioneer Award from the National Civil Rights Museum in 2011. Glover has served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program from 1998-2004 and was given the MEdaille des Arts et des Letters from the French Ministry of Culture in 2011. He is currently a UNICEF ambassador.

Glover also is a co-founder of Louverture Films with Joslyn Barnes, which formed in 2005. The company strives to develop and produce films of historical relevance, social purpose, commercial value and artistic integrity. He has won an Image Award, Cable ACE Award and has been nominated for four Emmys and a Daytime Emmy.
