The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Rice University presents Puerto Rican writer Eduarlo Lalo in “A Discussion on Literature and Visual Culture.” This program will include a screening of Lalo’s videos and a conversation with Professors Luis Duno-Gottberg and Beatriz Gónzalez –Stephan. The event will take place on Monday, November 18, 2013, 6:00-9:00pm, at 309 Sewall Hall, Rice University (6100 Main MS-34, Houston, Texas).
Eduardo Lalo—artist, writer, and professor at the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras—is the first Puerto Rican to win the Rómulo Gallegos Prize for Literature for his novel Simone, which has been described as an urban love story with a mystery entwined. He is also the author of En el Burger King de la Calle San Francisco, Libro de textos, Ciudades e islas, Los pies de San Juan (my favorite), and his first novel, La inutilidad (among others). His artwork (including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and video) has been presented in numerous galleries, museums and public spaces.
