Today (July 22, 2013) the Ministry of Overseas Departments in France launched a photo contest to honor the Women of Overseas (Territories)—“Femmes des Outremer.” The selected photos will be posted on the exterior walls of the Ministry of Overseas Departments in Paris (on the Boulevard des Invalides side) with the attendance of the winning photographers, beginning in November. The three winners, representing each region, will win prizes such as digital cameras, camera bags, tripods, and other equipment.
The competition is open to amateur and professional photographers (minimum age: 16). Each participant may submit 1-3 works exploring the theme of Women of Overseas Departments (DOM).
A first, local jury, consisting of recognized local professional photographers, journalists, state officials, and associations working for the promotion of equality between women and men and people interested in this topic will select 3 photos (by territory) including the sixth DOM—people originating from overseas but living in France. Then a national jury will select a winning photo per territory and establish an overall ranking.
Photos should be sent in digital format by mail (CD or USB), together with the completed and signed application form to the Ministry of Overseas Departments, until the entry deadline: September 17, 2013, 11:59pm (that is, postmarked before midnight). One important requirement is that the submitted photos must be in portrait format and in high resolution (300 DPI) in color or black and white.
