Prima ballerina assolutta Alicia Alonso will be honored this week in South Africa by several ballet companies from around the world, during a special gala to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her debut in the main role of Giselle, of which she made a masterly creation.
Performances are scheduled for Friday through Sunday at the Montecasino Theater of Johannesburg and will also celebrate the 65th anniversary of the founding of Cuba’s National Ballet Company, the www.radioreloj.cu web site reported.
Anette Delgado, Viengsay Valdés, Sadaise Arencibia, Dani Hernández, José Losada and Arián Molina are some of the stars of the company directed by Alicia Alonso that will interpret the famous pas de deux of Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Giselle and The Black Swan. Also on stage will be figures of renowned ballet companies of England, the United States, Russia, South Korea, Germany, Hungary and South Africa.
