The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority announced that it has entered the Tobago Cays into VirtualTourist.com’s quest to crown the “8th Wonder of the World.”

A collection of 32 unspoiled islands and cays in the secluded Southern Caribbean, St. Vincent and the Grenadines (“SVG”) is a place of quiet azure waters, unspoiled forests, and stunning white sand beaches. Down in the Grenadines lays the Tobago Cays, a protected wildlife reserve of five islets bordered by a giant horseshoe reef. A renowned sailing, snorkeling and scuba diving mecca, the Tobago Cays have been declared a wildlife reserve by the government. To preserve this natural phenomenon, there’s no fishing, jet skis, or anchoring of dinghies allowed. The waters, with their ever changing kaleidoscope of blues, greens and seemingly limitless shades of aquamarine, create a truly picture perfect background.

“While we definitely have some stiff competition, most people who have visited the Tobago Cays will agree that there remain few places on earth today that can match the unblemished natural beauty, easy accessibility and ‘feel good’ tranquility as the Tobago Cays,” said Glen Beache, CEO of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority.

With numerous Tourism Boards, Chambers of Commerce and Visitor Bureaus sending in a nomination, the public is asked to vote for their favorite out of the more than 200 submissions. Voters can visit http://www.virtualtourist.com/8thwonder  to vote for the Tobago Cays and have until 30th September to do so. The wonder with the most votes will be crowned the winner. The winner will be featured in a national broadcast TV segment on a popular syndicated program, as well as receive a massive media relations campaign push from VirtualTourist. “It’s wonderful to have a nomination from every corner of the world so we are thrilled to receive the Tobago Cays as a nomination from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority,” said Giampiero Ambrosi, General Manager of VirtualTourist.com. [. . .]
