Puerto Rican musician and composer Nicky Aponte, who is known as the pioneer of the use of the violin in jazz, rock, and Nueva Trova, will launch a new album—Antología de música para violines [Anthology of Violin Music]—on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) in Santurce, Puerto Rico.

According to Diálogo Digital, the album Antología de música para violines will feature a concertmaster violinist of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and a group of violin students. The album contains 12 concert movements from works composed between 1984 and 2008, in various combinations, such as duets, quartets, and chorus of violins. These compositions were recorded in their entirety by Aponte, who also is a violinist composer, guitarist, pianist and cellist.

The artist says, “I present this work, these compositions, with the hope that better violinists than me may consider them and include them in their repertoires. This is the largest collection of works for violin that I know of.”

Aponte’s developed a musical career characterized by the use and development of diverse genres, innovation, and productivity. Besides being a composer, he has distinguished himself as the musical arranger for Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and Arturo Somohano Philharmonic.

Aponte’s previous work includes Zapatoj Viejo (Compilation of his first works 1976-1982), Mar del Sur (1985), Life in the Big City (1993) and Fiebre de Primavera (2002).
