The Department of Creative & Festival Arts (DCFA) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) at St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, invites lovers of the theatre and the public in general to enter a dark and exotic world; a place where shadowy dangerous characters live; an island within an island from which you will never be able to leave. This is the world of Maria Antonia, being staged at the Little Carib Theatre [Port-of-Spain, Trinidad] from April 4-7, and 12-14, 2013 with 8 pm nightly shows and Sunday shows beginning at 6 pm.
As part of the requirements for the BA in Theatre Arts, Production II students of the DCFA are brought together as a company to perform in and produce a full-length play. Marvin George, part-time lecturer and co-lecturer for the course Production II said, “We are very fortunate to have Dr. Jorge Morejon – a Cuban-American dance lecturer at our department working on the production as both translator and director.” Under the guidance of Morejon, who translates, dramaturges and directs the play, Maria Antonia, the 1967 Cuban classic written by Eugenio Hernandez Espinosa will truly be brought to life.
Maria Antonia is the tragic story of an Afro-Cuban woman who defies the men, women, and traditions of her community in search of self and meaning. Through her trysts with men, her defiance of religion, and her thirst for change, she presents the struggles of a post-revolutionary Cuba – one where women are forced to re-evaluate their roles in society. It employs Afro-Cuban culture – for example Santeria, a syncretic religion of West African and Caribbean origin; and Rumba dance – as part of its aesthetic. The play, therefore, presents itself as an opportunity, not simply for the teaching and honing of necessary skills in theatre, but for students to be exposed to Cuban culture and familiarize themselves with the history of the Caribbean region.
General admission tickets are available for TT$100 with special rates of TT$50 for tertiary students with students ID and TT$40 for secondary students with student ID.

La mise en équation de ces 4 dimensions constitue un puissant creuset d’innovations. Aujourd’hui, plus aucun doute n’est permis?: l’énergéticien, qui a vécu depuis plus d’un siècle en produisant, en transportant ou en distribuant pétrole, gaz ou électricité, doit désormais veiller à faire en sorte que le consommateur, avec le soutien de toute la filière et des nouvelles technologies, en fasse bon usage. Derrière cette révolution se profile la nécessité pour les énergéticiens de faire évoluer leur modèle économique, qui ne peut naturellement plus tabler sur une croissance naturelle de la demande, compte tenu du souci d’efficacité énergétique et de l’apparition de nouvelles sources d’énergie complémentaires. Il convient donc que ces derniers ne se contentent plus de la marge réalisée entre le prix d’achat et le prix de vente, mais qu’ils s’attachent à créer de la valeur autrement, notamment en s’appropriant ce nouveau r?le dont ils ont hérité bon gré, mal gré. C’est ainsi que l’on voit, par exemple, se développer depuis quelques années ces nouvelles figures que constituent les sociétés d’énergie et de services (ESCO – Energy Service company) qui se substituent ou s’ajoutent, selon les cas, au modèle de ?multi-utilities? qui préfa?ait le début de la décennie passée. Il est vrai que pour un secteur assez peu innovant, en tout cas sur sa partie aval et notamment dans son offre client, il s’agit là d’un défi particulièrement intéressant à relever, dont ni les tenants ni les aboutissants n’avaient pas réellement été pris en compte jusqu’à la deuxième partie de la décennie 2000-2010. Mais ce défi nécessitera bien toute la décennie prochaine pour être relevé. Ce défi est d’autant plus ambitieux que les investissements retenus pourraient être plus ou moins pertinents, avec le risque à la clé de ne pas faire les bons choix technologiques ou stratégiques.
