The legendary Cuban band Los Van Van now faces a new challenge that has also affected mega-rock bands like Deep Purple or Metallica: playing their songs in symphonic form.
The performance of four Los Van Van songs with musical arrangements for symphony orchestra by the maestro Joaquin Betancourt, is one of the surprises at the coming Cubadisco-2013, a music trade fair held in Havana.
Gloria Ochoa, president of Cubadisco-2013, said that the new versions will respect the rhythm and chorus of the band that was founded in 1969 by Juan Formell.
Once again, this experiment shows the musical versatility of Cuban composers, said Ochoa, regarding this tribute to the group.
A concert with fifty violinists, led by Manolito Simonet, pianist and leader of the salsa group The Trabuco, will provide further evidence of the fusion of styles at Cubadisco-2013.
