Theater: Johanny Vázquez Paz’s “Querido Voyeur”

Aguijón Theater presents a performance by Johanny Vázquez Paz, “Querido Voyeur” [Dear Voyeur] in three shows only on February 14, 15, and 16, 2013 at 8:00pm. The theater is located at 2707 North Laramie Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.

Description: As part of its Caribbean Voices Project, Aguijón Theater presents Querido Voyeur, a performance created using texts from the homonymous poetry collection by Chicago-based Puerto Rican poet, Johanny Vázquez Paz. The show celebrates and explores the quotidian intimacy, creative process and different facets of a woman and artist.

Johanny Vázquez Paz was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She holds an MA in Hispanic Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Indiana State University. She currently teaches Spanish at Harold Washington College in Chicago, Illinois. In 2012, Ediciones Torremozas (Madrid, Spain) published her most recent poetic work, Querido Voyeur. Her book Streetwise Poems/Poemas Callejeros was published by Mayapple Press (Michigan, 2007). She co-edited the anthology Between the Heart and the Land / Entre el corazón y la tierra: Latina Poets in the Midwest (MARCH/Abrazo Press, 2001) and was included in the compilation Poetas sin tregua (Spain, 2006) of Puerto Rican poets from the 80’s generation.
