The 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of Cartagena de Indias will be held from February 21 to 27, 2013 in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
The festival is divided into various specialized sections including: fiction feature films, documentaries, short films, Colombiano al 100% (a section centering on Colombian film production), New Filmmakers, Conchas de Oro-La última década (international features from the last ten years), and Gemas.
FICCI is a gateway to the most relevant production in new Latin American cinema and a launching platform for Colombian cinema. Most of the films in the program do not have national distribution; therefore the FICCI is the only opportunity for the regional public to see true gems of contemporary cinema. Besides numerous screenings, there are many other film industry activities taking place, including the official competitions, training events, workshops, and the participation of national and international guests.
Last year’s festival included a special tribute to Isabella Rossellini and a Claire Denis retrospective among other major events, including special guests such as Olivier Assayas, Hector Babenco, Geraldine Chaplin, Williem Dafoe, Benicio del Toro, Alex de la Iglesia, Claire Denis, Gael García Bernal, Arturo Ripstein, Isabella Rossellini, Rodrigo Santoro, and Luis Tosar. The program included more than 90 films including fiction and documentaries, feature films and short films, representing 25 countries.
