Leonardo Padura granted 2012 National Literature Prize

Outstanding Cuban writer, journalist and literary critic Leonardo Padura was granted the 2012 National Literature Prize.

The top literature award is granted each year by the Cuban Book Institute and the Culture Ministry in recognition of the work of those writers who have contributed to the enrichment of the Cuban cultural legacy in general, and of literature in particular.

Padura, a renowned Cuban writer on the island and abroad, was selected for the prize after about 18 proposals were issued by several Cuban literature institutions.

The 57-year-old author has been granted prizes by the Cuban Writers and Artists Association in the modalities cultural journalism, literary critique and several others over the past years.

Padura will receive the National Literature Prize in a public ceremony scheduled to take place February 17, 2013, during the 22nd Havana International Book Fair.
