Cuba to Open Puppet Museum

Over 100 pieces, some authentic and with high heritage value, will be displayed in the first puppet museum in Cuba at the Pedroso House, located in the historic district of Old Havana. In remarks to Prensa Latina, Liliana Perez Recio, director of El Arca theater hall, said the value of the figures, many of them replicas of original didactic value, lies in providing information about the show, time, author , designer, and actor who encouraged them.

Along with the idea of opening a puppet theater, Havana’s Historian Eusebio Leal proposed creating a museum for the collection, he said.

“That’s why we toured the country in 2009 and call on all puppeteer groups to join in this company, and thereafter, we also started receiving donations from many friends all over the world,” he added.

Among the current challenges of the institution is the construction of furniture, and concrete sample curation, with work underway for the last four years.

  1. I am trying to find the email address of El Arca, the puppet theater in Havana. I am a volunteer at a puppet museum in California, and when I read that El Arca was trying to start a puppet museum, The International Puppet Museum, and I have a trip planned to Cuba the first week of April, I thought I would like to bring them a puppet for their collection. Ccan you put me in touch with them?
