Prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, director of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), has been awarded the Positano Dance Prize, one of the most important awards in Europe.
In a note, the BNC press department stated that the prize, in the highest Entire Artistic Career category, was presented to Alonso during the 40th Positano Dance Festival.
The jury for the prize, conferred unanimously, comprised internationally renowned critics such as Clement Crisp, United Kingdom; Anna Kisselgoff, United States; Rene Sirvin, France; and Alfio Agostini, Italy, among other dance figures.
The prize, which includes an original sketch by filmmaker and designer Franco Zeffirelli, was personally accepted by Alicia Alonso during a tribute gala in the Teatro della Spiaggia Grande. On the same day, Positano’s Museo del Viaggio premiered the biographical documentary Alicia Alonso: Órbita de una leyenda, to be screened in various sessions. The legendary interpreter of Giselle also had a meeting – chaired by Alfio Agostini – with critics and the public. For this visit, Alonso was the special guest of Michele De Lucia, mayor of Positano, on the Amalfi coast.
