Caricatures by eight Cuban artists with reflections on the world economic crisis will be exhibited in September in Spain, as part of the 19th International Exhibition on Humor Arts, convened by the Quevedo Institute of Madrid.
According to the meeting’s Web site, creators Alfredo Martirena, Jorge Martínez, Miriam Alonso and Pedro Matamoros were selected for the contest.
Also qualifying were Raúl de la Nuez, Ramiro Zardoya, Román Pérez and Marcial Flores, the latter being the graphic artist with the largest amount of works on the cause of the five Cuban prisoners held in the United States.
Flores said that some of his pieces were recently exhibited in Italy, during a Cuban culture festival in that country and that there’s a plan to carry out a traveling exhibition that will tour US cities, at the request of the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five.
