Sixty-one students graduated from the Humming Bird Pan Groove Steel Orchestra Music School in the Panyard Camp in St. James, Trinidad. The graduation exercise took place yesterday, July 29, 2012.
It is graduation time for 61 youngsters attached to the Humming Bird Pan Groove Steel Orchestra Music School in the Panyard Camp. The youths ranging from six to sixteen years will receive certificates after successfully completing a three-week program organized and funded by the Culture Division of Trinidad & Tobago’s Ministry of The Arts and Multiculturalism.
These camps were created as a means of developing a more holistic approach to music education in terms of the teaching and learning of music, the development and enhancement of performance skills and the knowledge of music literacy – as well as using the Steelpan as an instrument for learning music. Participants were also given a brief history of the steelpan.
Tutors included Fitzroy Henry, Michael Cupidore, Elizabeth Carlo, Curtis Alleyne, Andre Carlo, and Sasha Ramarsan.
